Talking about the minstrel shows in class, it was interesting to see the point of view that the poor whites may have been jealous of the blacks. I can see how this point of view can be seen but I’m not really sure that I agree with it. The poor whites knew how the slaves were being treated and not even getting paid other then room and board. I don’t believe the whites would have at any time if given the opportunity to change roles would have wanted to be owned by another person and become a slave. I believe that it was only a way for the whites to entertain each other and get away for a few hours from their daily life but nothing else.
